Methods of Arabic Tropes in the Hundred Verse Suras Hadi Hassan Mohammad Summary This study includes an introduction, a prefac e, four chapters, and conclusion, which explains the results reached in this research. The introduction includes the reasons why the topic has been chosen, and the previous rhetorical studies, which had deal t with Koran subjects. It also explains briefly the content of the preface an d chapters. The preface tackles two points: - First: is the relation between style and eloquen ce and their definitions, beside the meanings they perfume. Second: the ilucidation of the hundred verses Sur as; they are arranged after the long Suras. Scholars disagreed about thei r number and names, but the present researcher could prove the most correct views and specifies their number as being fourteen Suras as in the following: - Al – Tawba, Hud, Yousuf, Al – Hijr, Al – Nahl, Al – Isra', Al – Kahf, Mariem, Taha, Al – Anbiya', Al – Muminoon, Al – Shu 'ra', Al – Naml, Al – Saffat. The first chapter, which is entitled (figurative Speech and its Dimensions in the Hundred Verse Suras) includes a methodologic al preface about the position of figuration, its emergence reasons, thos e who denied its existence in Koran and language, and those who supp orted and confirmed its existence inboth Koran and language. Then Islam ic sects which help this view are also mentioned. This chapter also exp lains truth and figurative speech and mentioning it in writing as w ell as the artistic value of this rhetorical style. Its divisions are further explained with some elaboration on unrhymed figuration and its relation s in the hundreds verses Suras. Also the mental figures of speech and its ti es with the Suras ascertaining its existence and the artistic insight of Abdul – Qahir Al – Jirjani in the crystallization ot its termology Chapter Two comes under the title (The Phenomen a of Simili in the Hundreds Verses Suras) to review the former studies which have touched simile and first among old scholars who mentioned t he term. Then it shows its artistic image, influence in creating the image , and the sublime eloquent level performed by this image through mentioning ve rses in the hundred

verse suras. This chapter also treats the relation between simile and environment and its subjection to the later and its impact on the semantic clarity. The research could clarify the semantic ef fect on the simile levels, and that sense can take different dimensions accord ing to the type of simile and the each one's significance. Chapter Three, which is titled (Metaphor, Divis ions and Images in the Hundred Verse Suras), deals with the reasons why sc holars paid special attention to metaphor as it reflects semantic and r hetorical features more than other figures of speech concentrating on its a rtistic value, the difference between metaphor and simile, and the nec essity to keep it away from definitions that make it a follower to simile. It is considered as an independent art of rhetorical dimensions in perform ing wide types of meaning characterized by the possibility to be inte rrupted by various ways, which are carried out by contributing in the image composition. As for Chapter Four, it tackles (Metonymy and it s followers in the Hundreds Verses Suras). The chapter is introduced b y showing applied touches from the verses of the Hundred Verses Suras to explicate their eloquence role then moving to talk about them in th e rhetorical heritage followed by their position between truth and figura tion with bringing out their artistic value and their figurative ability on the addressee psychology. Other matters such as the divisions of metonym y includingf touching on, symbolism, suggestion, signification, and gestu re as well as exemplification them by verses from the Hundred Ver ses Suras to show their somatic role. The conclusion comprises of the results reache d by the scholars, chief among are, the artistic value of the eloquence meth ods and the ability of these methods to depict the image which can have a wide semantic effect. It is also concluded that there is a relation betwe en stylistic and imagery. Then comes the role of metonymy in the effect on th e addressee's psychology and its influence to make them accept th e ideas implied in those Suras.
